It’s been a very busy few months, as always really. We’re coming to the end of our summer term at Messums Creative and it’s all go for me. I‘ve to get all of the pots bisque fired before the last classes next week; although making sure I get time for my own making amongst the busyness of work. And with that I am very happy to say I’ve finally started making my new range of work. I’m happy with how the first batch of mugs have come out. I’m still tinkering with my glaze and slip recipes to make them ‘sing’ but overall, very happy. The first batch of breakfast bowls are in the kiln being bisque as I write this and will be glazed on Monday.
I have great plans for the range with a selection of 14 shapes and sizes, most them are completely new forms. I might not get them all made before Potfest in early November (that’s my target date/potential launch date) but I’ll make as much as I can. I’m very excited. Without promising and disappointing anyone, my hope is to have four mug sizes: expresso, coffee, small tea mug and a large tea mug to get a little hint of what’s to come. Amongst all of this is also my plan to have four variations of patterning for each shape and size. I’m waiting for some tests before I start making the third and fourth variation.
I’ve shown the first mugs to a select few and gotten really useful feedback which has given me more ideas. The prototypes are on the shelves at work and the students have been saying really nice things about them which has been really good.
See, great plans. I hope I’ll have a bit more time for making over the summer holidays. I also want to make more tealight holders and bird feeders too.
